Katie Elledge started Board & Bevel after deciding she could build her wife Emily a new dining room table. Armed with YouTube videos and a couple of saws, she pulled it off — and discovered she wasn't half bad at woodworking.

What started as Christmas gifts for family turned into a real business. She sources all her wood from Albuquerque Exotic Woods, a local family-owned shop that's taught her about grain direction, resin work, and which species to start with. Everything is handmade — no CNC, no laser cutter, no computerized equipment. Just sharp objects, sanding, and whatever comes straight out of her brain onto the wood.

Katie's a physical therapist by day and a transplant from Arkansas who landed in ABQ doing travel therapy. She met Emily here, and that settled the question of where the business would be.

Board & Bevel makes custom cutting boards, charcuterie boards, barware, and kitchenware. They do custom engraving — names, images, whatever you need. You can find them at the Rail Yards Market (next up: May 31st), other local vendor fairs, and on their Etsy shop.

“YouTube videos and a couple of saws, we're good to go. I tried it, I did it, and I was like — hey, this is kind of fun, and I'm not half bad.”
